STX Impact Lacrosse Arm Guards

STX have released the Impact series comprising of shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves and arm guards. This series boasts of some of the lightest gear in the game combined with a low profile design. Importantly as well, the series comes with a very good amount of protection. These three features combined make this series a great option for junior players.

Protection

The main difference between the STX Impact arm guards and the arm pads is the elbow protection. The arm guards have an external elbow cap which is made of hard plastic. This offers great protection against defenders who like to hack at your arms.

Above and below elbow cap, the guards also have some good padding within them offering you fantastic overall protection. The inside of the guard also offers some bicep and upper forearm protection which you'll be thankful for in ground ball contests.

Comfort

The STX Impact arm guards are constructed as a whole sleeve making them easy to put on and take off. The sleeve is a soft spandex fabric which feels great on the skin. Spandex is a common addition to arm guards. It is very elastic and will cling to your arms nicely helping the guard to stay in place. It is a porous fabric which absorbs your sweat to keep you dry through the game while also allowing your skin to breathe. But as with any Spandex gear, you need to dry them out so they don't stink up too quick.

Even though the arm guards have a good amount of protection, they have very low profile. The elbow cap especially doesn't really stick out that much nor add any external bulk.

Fit

The STX Impact arm guards themselves aren't as long as other arm guards. The main sleeve itself is only just a bit shorter, but it appears quite a bit shorter because it doesn't have a specific wrist guard attachment. However, it's not a fair comparison because that sort of protection is found on more expensive arm guards.

There are two decent sized velcro straps on the inside of the arm guards; one at the top and one at the bottom. These additionally help keep them in place, as you'd expect.

The spandex sleeve helps keep the guard close and provides a great amount of flex. Your arms will be able to move freely while still being protected.

Summary

The guards come in standard black and white, but STX have the added a bit extra for an eye-catching design. The internal spandex lining is yellow which gives them a striking and distinctive look. It is a break from the standard black, red and white STX colors, but it works really well.
