When ozone comes in contact with the cell wall, it creates a small hole. A hole compromises the integrity of cell wall and the bacterial starts to lose its shape. When thousands of ozone particles collide with bacterial it can no longer maintain its shape and it dies. In biology, this process is known as Lysis (see image to the right).
